Hillary & Mike | A Holland Michigan Wedding

I remember as clear as day, Hillary and I sitting on the beach in Virginia talking about our ‘one day’ weddings. At the time, Hillary was single and I remember her always saying “I’ll never get married!” - Fast forward to the day she met Mike. We all knew he was the one long before a ring. We all not-so-patiently-waited for their engagement so when it finally happened, my excitement stretched the entire eastern seaboard. When she asked me to photograph her wedding (knowing that it would be in Michigan) I said YES before she could even finish.

There’s no place like Michigan you guys. When I went up there for the first time back in 2014, it caught me off guard how beautiful it is around the lake area. I was completely enamored by it, but it’s safe to say that infatuation would probably only last 4 months of the year. Regardless, any change to get out of this southern humidity - sign me up!

The day was just as picture perfect as I could have hoped. The girls got ready at Hillary’s grandpa’s home on the lake and it gave us the most insanely picturesque backdrop for pictures. Still waiting for my invitation to live there permanently. The boys got ready at an Airbnb nearby and the two met up at a local beach access for their first look. Mike & his bride to be exchanged vows privately during their First Look and I’m certainly filing it in my Top 5 Most Emotional Moments I’ve Ever Photographed. There will never be a day that I take for granted being able to witness such intimate moments in someone’s love story. It’s truly humbling.

Their ceremony was filled with family and friends from all over the US plus or minus 4,000 gnats that also decided to join in. The soft lake breeze kept them at bay while more vows were exchanged, rings were given, and the first kiss was sealed. And it hit me. After all those years we had talked about our weddings, hers was finally happening!

After the ceremony, the bridal party piled into a trolley where we headed into Holland to the Baker Lofts. BUT NOT WITHOUT A WHITE CLAW STOP. I love a bridal party that’s down to stop anywhere, do anything, and PARTY. These guys didn’t let me down as the reception was just as lively as I knew it would be! The florals from Posh Petals adorned every table and every corner of the Lofts and I swear I wanted to live in this color palette forever!

I also want to give a special call out to my assistant photographer Stephanie, or Stephanie Parshall Photography. She’s literally a rockstar and helped me beyond my wildest hopes. I could not have done this day justice without her!

I know my words won’t paint the picture of how perfect their wedding day was, so hopefully this recap will:
